Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized the Russian player secured his first title for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a difficult year, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in especial - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally separating with long-time trainer Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks his initial championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court from that period of the previous year.

Success also means he has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one various events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my two daughters together, so to win a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six finals, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's counter-punching approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had caused observers to doubt if his ability to compete at the top level was finished.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play aggressively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, taking 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.

Moutet rescued four early-game opportunities in a tight deciding set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a rally at the net area, with his opponent unable to control a return after a lengthy match.
