Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then located multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police state early analysis show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.
City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior official commented the vandalism left him without words and had to be resolved promptly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
